2023 Trip to Rwanda
We have just arrived home after spending 3 weeks in Rwanda. It was our first opportunity to visit for 4.5 years. It was great to see our Rwandan friends again and to support the enterprise in person. It was a busy few weeks and very fruitful. We spent our time in Kigali (the capital), Sowathe Tea Plantation and Musanze.
We visited 2 Compassion Projects which care for vulnerable children and their families and also 2 womens Co operatives who care for vulnerable women (eg teen mothers, rape victims, disabled women, homeless, rejected, HIV) We had the privilege to come alongside our local team from days for Girls Musanze. The local team distributed 450 menstrual hygiene kits and also presented the valuable health training. Our head sewer also updated the skills of 10 sewers from another enterprise.
We had the opportunity to attend to administrative tasks (sort out bank account), connect with local leaders and wateraid as we seek to learn how to support the enterprise going forward.
We wish to thank all of the people who have made kind and generous donations- Hope Global, Geelong DfG, Castle Hill DfG and many family, friends and friends of friends. Thank you for being part of the team and joining with us to help eliminate the stigma and limitations associated with menstruation. Your donations have brought real change to girls and women for the next 3 years. You have given them dignity and the opportunity to participate in all areas of life. We also believe in the importance of reaching the boys and men with the valuable health information. The local team also delivered the health training to 53 boys/men.
